Target Heart Rate (THR): Think of your THR as your “fat burning zone”. Exercise that reaches your THR burns more calories from fat.

Body Mass Index (BMI): The measure of your body fat. The higher your BMI, the higher your chances are at developing diabetes, cardiovascular disease, autoimmune disease, and digestive problems (just to name a few). BMI Standards according to the National Institutes of Health are:

  • Underweight: < 18.5
  • Normal: 18.5 - 24.9
  • Overweight: 25 – 29.9
  • Obesity, Class I: 30 – 34.9
  • Obesity, Class II: 35 - 39.9
  • Extreme Obesity: > 40

Body Fat Percentage: Percentage of body fat. Women have approximately 10% to 13% of essential body fat, the rest is called storage fat.
